Marianna Moraes (Nana)

Bringing together science, justice and compassion to transform human-animal relationship

My Background

I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Law from Gama Filho University, Brazil, and a Master’s Degree in Political and Legal Science from Portucalense University, Portugal. My academic journey expanded to the field of anthropology, where I earned a Master’s Degree at the University of California, Davis (UCD), and I am currently pursuing a PhD in Anthropology at the same institution.

Professionally, I serve as a Federal Public Servant at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), Brazil, and have a robust background as an attorney, with a strong focus on ethics, human rights, and animal protection.

Beyond academia and law, I am a Certified Animal Protector in the State of Rio de Janeiro, actively dedicating my efforts to initiatives that promote the welfare and protection of animals in vulnerable situations. This multifaceted background enables me to bridge the worlds of law, anthropology, and advocacy to foster ethical relationships between humans and animals.
